The goal of this seminar is to approach the terms “environmental impact” and “sustainability” from a computer scientist’s point of view. We will discuss current research findings and future trends navigating through a variety of different domains.

The students will explore the fundamental principles that shape the design of computer systems. The goal is to gain insights into how complex systems, such as communication networks, operating systems and computers function. We will achieve this by elaborating on a selection of core concepts drawn from real-world examples across various disciplines. We will discuss key ideas that are common in different computer systems. Our starting point will be the book “Principles of computer system design: an introduction” by J. H. Saltzer and M. F. Kaashoek.
Successful completion of Introduction to Computer Science I and II is recommended.
